I’ve been without my blog for about 2 weeks while DH & DS changed servers/hosts or something. Hopefully this will be the last change and I’ll be able to do some of the things I wanted to do with the old blog.
I have finished my first pair of SOS 2007 socks!

Pattern: Summer Solstice
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill supersock
Needles: Brittany size 1 (2.25mm) dpns
The pattern does some adjustments at the ankle which weren’t so hard for the first sock, but by the time I got to the second sock, I’d forgotten what I’d done and was so blind I overlooked a single line of the instruction, telling me to move the round over 4 stitches. So these took longer and were a little more frustrating than I thought - but overall is a fairly easy pattern and the stitch pattern is easy to memorize. This was my first pair of socks using CTH and I like how they turned out. I have a couple more skeins in my stash that were intended for other things, but may now turn out to be socks!
I have recently returned from Stitches Midwest in Rosemont, IL. It was a long weekend and I was ready to come home. M & I drove home together as her internship in the Chicago area was over on Friday. A single day on the road isn’t as much of a road trip as I’d like, but it was still great to spend the time with her. Only a few more days before she heads off again.
I finally managed to take a class from Lily Chin! The class was on bias knitting and gave me lots of ideas. I may even be leaning towards starting to design! The only teacher I had had before was Judy Pascale, but she’s a great teacher with a lot of energy (especially for Sunday afternoon) and the class was interesting (Beaded Scarf). All the knitting I did in class over the weekend was tiny swatches, not worth photographing. Sorry, you’ll have to wait until I use what I learned on something else!
While I was gone, our dog Lucy had her puppies! (Scroll down to see photos and to submit name suggestions.) They are still adorable, just barely a week old.
The mystery stole is on hold for now. I was trying so hard to finish my socks, then I needed to get “homework” done for my classes, etc. so I have fallen far behind. I will get back to it, though! I have also decided I’m on a lace kick lately, and have several scarves and shawls on my to-do list. Part of my recent distraction was this:

These are the squares I knit for Rebuilding Greensburg. I managed to knit ten squares! This was the Patons Decor that was left over from the afghan I made for Dan & Alicia for their wedding last year. I had a couple of full skeins and a few remnants left, so I was able to use leftovers and reduce my stash, as well as help keep those folks warm this winter.
In addition, I finished the baby sweater I’d been working on, and ripped and reknit the collar. I washed and blocked it, as well as the burgundy Child’s French Socks that I finished earlier this year. I had to get them ready to take to the county fair! The county fair is now over, but they have been entered into the State fair, so I’ll post pictures and tell you the judging results when the State Fair is over (Labor Day) and I can collect my entries (a few days later). I have some ribbons from the County - so keep your fingers crossed that the State Fair judges like my work as well!
I have now been invited to join Ravelry! For those who don’t know, it’s an online group (currently by invitation only as it is still in Beta testing) where you can store information about your projects (in progress and completed), photos (actually, links from Flickr), and information about your stash and patterns, etc. The coolest thing I’ve seen so far is that you can put in a pattern or a yarn and find out how many projects have been made among other Ravelry users, and check out what they’ve done. So, if there’s a pattern you like but you’re not sure if a painted yarn would look good, you can look at other completed items and see what they used and if you like it. If you have a yarn but aren’t sure what pattern to use, you can look up and see what patterns other people have used with that yarn, and see their photos. This is really helpful to me for things like my skeins of Socks That Rock multi-color sock yarn. I’m not a fan of color pooling, and some patterns will work better to keep that from happening, so I can look to see what others have done with their STR yarn. I was just approved, so last night was my first chance to get in and look around (could be the reason I was up until 1 a.m. ……)
I brought lots of yarn with me to Stitches and, of course, didn’t manage to do much except finish my Solstice Socks. I did cast on for Color Weave Madness with KnitPicks Memories (and I’m not sure I like how that’s turning out) and also cast on Pomatomus socks with KnitPicks Essential. Neither sock is a good traveling companion as (for me) the patterns are not easily memorized, so I have to have the pattern along, and I have to refer to it constantly as I knit. Perhaps I can find a “traveling” sock pattern that isn’t too plain.
I think that’s all the news. We’ll be updating puppy photos fairly regularly, and hope to put a few You Tube videos on the blog as well.
Keep Knitting!
